YA Lit Class - Session 10; Book cover collage for the YA room

Last night in my YA Lit class, we discussed both graphic novels and novels in verse. (Originally these topics were split into two separate classes, but we decided to combine them and finish up one week earlier this summer.) The books generated some great discussion points! We also did a craft involving clay sculptures, but I am not going to post a picture of my sculpture because it was sooooo bad. It kind of looked like a gingerbread man but it was supposed to be a man. Oops! :)

I plan to post mini reviews of this week's books soon - I'll do a post for all the graphic novels tomorrow and then a post for the novels in verse on Sunday. Here are the books we discussed:

Maus I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History

Maus II: A Survivor's Tale: And Here My Troubles Began

The Arrival by Shaun Tan
The Arrival

The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Crossing Stones by Helen Frost
Crossing Stones

All the Broken Pieces by Ann E. Burg
All The Broken Pieces

Becoming Billie Holiday by Carole Weatherford
Becoming Billie Holiday

In other news, our YA librarian put up some fun book collage covers in the YA room. I got to help make some of the collages! Check 'em out:

I LOVE the book cover collage. I wonder if there is a way I can incorporate it into someting fun for my students to do - maybe for Banned Books week?

I love the collage! That is a great idea especially if you don't have a lot of space to display books face out.
