Five Great Miracles that Occurred to Get Me Reading More Fantasy/Sci-Fi

I'm participating in Persnickety Snark's FIVE Challenge for 2010Today bloggers are sharing their picks for Five Great Miracles that Occurred to Get Me Reading More (insert genre here)

Growing up, I mostly read contemporary/realistic fiction, but in the past few years I've expanded my horizons and tried out different genres. I was most reluctant to try fantasy/sci-fi, but it turns out that I really enjoy it! Here are my picks that got me reading more fantasy/sci-fi in 2010:

The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games: Book 1Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)Mockingjay (The Final Book of The Hunger Games)
When I first started working in a library, the teen librarian recommended these books to me. I devoured the first two and anxiously awaited the third book! If you haven't read these books yet, what are you waiting for?

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book One
I read this for my Young Adult Literature class over the summer. It was a very unique story, and the action really sucked me in. This is the first book of a trilogy, and I plan to continue with the series.

Unwind by Neal Shusterman
Unwind
I read this for my Materials for Youth class this fall. It was a fascinating and thought-provoking read.

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
Ella Enchanted
This was another book I read for my Materials for Youth class. I loved the smart, funny heroine and I couldn't help rooting for her. (Skip the movie, though-the book is a lot better!)

Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
Princess Academy
I read this for - you guessed it - my Materials for Youth class. The richly detailed setting and the wonderful characters kept me reading.

I read Unwind for my YA Lit class! I really thought it was awesome. It's a shame that more people don't seem to be familiar with it!

I thoroughly enjoyed TKoNLG, but the next two books (especially Monsters of Men) were AMAZING!!! I hope you get to read them soon :)
