Humorous Nonfiction

Need a good laugh? Here are some hilarious books I enjoyed lately:

FU Haiku: Pissed-Off Poetry for Every Occasion by Beth Quinlan and Perry Taylor

While these haikus aren't necessarily the most well-written poetry, they are pretty funny. My favorite: "I have PMS. / You ate the last Twix. Now I'm / going to kill you." (p118). There is some cursing in this book, so steer clear if you're easily offended. Otherwise, enjoy haiku rants from the peeved, pissed-off, fuming, furious, and fit to be tied!

Fail Nation by the Failblog.org Community

This hilarious collection of photographs had me laughing from beginning to end. The book is organized as a tour guide to Fail Nation, a fictional place where it seems no one uses spellcheck (or common sense)! If you're a fan of the the popular website failblog.org, you will most likely enjoy this book as well.

The Snuggie Sutra by Lex Friedman and Megan Morrison

Just reading the title and looking at the cover sent me into a fit of giggles. As you probably guessed from the title, this book contains illustrations of 100 ways to get frisky while using a Snuggie. The descriptions and commentary are just as funny as the illustrations! There's even a FAQ with snarky answers in the back - don't miss it!

Dispatches from a Public Librarian by Scott Douglass

This is a free Nook book that I downloaded. It's received mixed reactions from reviewers who either seem to love it or hate it. I really enjoyed it! This collection includes tales of strange patrons, descriptions of weird items found in the library book drop, corny library pickup lines (and how librarians effectively shoot them down), advice to future librarians entering grad school, library-related questions you always wanted to ask but never had the nerve, adventures in troubleshooing library computer problems, librarian confessions, and more. If you enjoy this free collection, Douglas also has a memoir called Quiet, Please.
