Harry Potter Challenge 2011: Re-read of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

I decided to participate in the Harry Potter Reading Challenge this year and FINALLY finish the series. I mean, how can I become a teen librarian without having finished this series?! The first time around I only made it through books 1-4.

I read books 1-4 back in 2005 and 2006 after a lot of urging from my then-boyfriend (a HUGE Harry Potter fan). At the time I didn't read much YA literature or anything popular for that matter. I liked the books, but I just didn't fall in love with them like everyone else. I guess I just wasn't much of a fantasy fan back then. Plus it took me a long time to get through the books with all my homework (I had a double major and minor) and teaching internship duties. So when I realized that the books kept getting longer and longer, I gave up on the series and thought I'd pick it up after graduation. However, that never happened until now!

I'm SO glad I decided to take this challenge. My reading tastes have changed a lot since 2005, and I'm now falling in love with the Harry Potter series! I recently finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I only vaguely remembered the plot, so it was almost like reading it for the first time! I loved getting to know the characters and watching their friendships grow. I'm definitely hooked on the series and can't wait to re-read book 2. Hopefully I'll make it through the entire series before the last movie comes out! (I've only seen movies 1-4 but plan to catch up on those as well.)

Now, here are some pictures from my past travels just for fun. I studied abroad in England back in 2005. This first one is a terrible picture of me, but look! I'm at Platform 9 3/4! I took this picture and the ones that follow for all my Harry Potter-fan friends.

Oxford. This looks like where they filmed the first flying lesson for HP #1. Am I right?

Oxford. Nothing was filmed here but it inspired the dining hall in the HP movies.

Some HP scenes were filmed on this staircase at Christchurch I believe:

Have you read the whole Harry Potter series? Have you read it more than once?

I just read it for the first time in 2008. Now I'm going through it again in audiobook. The audio is SO good!
