Library Love (10)

I noticed that when I talk about libraries with friends and family members, they often say, "I didn't know libraries offered that!" Library Love is a feature in which I share many different reasons for people to use and love their local library. Some things I mention may be obvious to those of you who routinely use your public library, but others may be new to you. Either way I hope that this feature inspires you to visit and support your local library!

10. Meet new people with similar interests.

Are you new in town? Or just looking to meet some new people? Try attending a library book discussion, informational program, or cultural event. Join a craft club and meet people who enjoy the same activities you do. Start a writer's group and meet with other aspiring author to critique one another's work. Strike up a conversation with a librarian and talk to them about the latest book you read. Libraries offer many opportunities for you to engage with your community and start meeting like-minded people.

Recently, the New York Times reported on a number of literary speed-dating events taking place at libraries. Who knew libraries could also be the place to find your next date?

Have you made any friends at the library?

I am sooo glad to have come across your blog and this new meme. I just graduated from Library School and I love my Public Library!!! I actually did a post on something similar a while ago: Love Your Public Library. I can't wait to read the remaining reasons (even though I know there are more than 100 reasons) :)
